Midnight (Part 1)

Midnight is my first post, and this is going to be an introduction of all the characters so far in the story universe. I call this my “baby TV drama project”.

The Girl

She didn’t understand what the hype about Midnight was. She thought, like the sensible person she was, that it was another cheap shot at commercialization, like Valentine’s Day or Christmas.

It wasn’t that she was jaded. Well, she was, but she had gotten over Lucas and her childhood notion of what romance is. Was.

Okay, so she hadn’t gotten over him. And it really hurt to see him with her friend-turned-traitor-turned-enemy doing the things that she enjoyed doing with him. Movies. Flowers. Laughter. Music.

And in their five months, they’ve never kissed.

But she was way off tangent.

Where the hell is she anyway?

The Boy

If his stupid cousins think they can ditch him without telling him, then they’d be sorry, as he’ll kick their asses and then proceed to torture them.

He knew they were only trying to help. After his bitter breakup with his girlfriend, who he had loved since forever, the good life suddenly turned sour. And so his well-meaning cousins dragged him to Midnight, with all the promises of “fun” and “cool” and “girls”.

Girls. Who needs them?

He looked around and saw many people, who like him, were waiting outside for the opening.

He looked at his watch again. Just 10:00. And he was so damned hungry already.

The Cousin

He was so damned hungry already.

And at this time, he only had three choices: a way too pricey restaurant about to close, a junk food joint, or a 24-7 convenience store.

Or he could just kick Alec and Julian’s asses to hurry up.

He looked at his watch. 10:30. He smirked at the thought that he was already there. He was always the prompt one; he had the practice, anyway, what with having a serious relationship. Too bad it ended.

And the plan was to cheer him up and distract him with the cute girls and bombshells and babes who he was so sure would come at Midnight.

But he had to find food first.

The Dreamer

Great. Now she was lost. She was sure that it was this way, so she decided to walk.

But it wasn’t her fault she got distracted by the window display which showcased the latest edition. Which she bought just before the store closed.

She sighed and tried hailing a cab.

Maybe she could appease Kate with the book?

His Friend

He wanted to throw the mobile phone at the wall.

He was cool and collected at the beginning when he called his friend and casually gave the invitation to go out with them. But he was politely and oh so nicely rejected: sorry, a certain someone was coming over.

His phone was a gift from his friends, who worked their asses off at summer jobs so they could get him the best birthday present. It was the latest model, top of the line with all the latest features.

Then he remembered the phone call.

Damn it.

The Recluse

He could have told them he was busy. And he really was. It was a Friday night and one of the rare moments where they didn’t had homework, so he planned to play the RPG he’d just bought. But they were too forceful, especially those two, who pestered him until he finally agreed.

Two things on the agenda tonight: cheer their friend up, who had just had his heart broken into pieces by the girl he was in love with since they were kids. He had told him she was never interested in him, and she only went out with him because he was so damned persistent.  But their friend was too stubborn when it comes to matters of the heart.

The other agenda was to find a girlfriend. Or make out with a girl tonight. Or at least get a girl’s number.

He could accomplish the first one. But not the second one.

Her Best Friend

She knew this was going to happen. She knew it, she had seen it before, but she was too blind and too full of pride to do something to stop it.

It wasn’t as if she and Lucas broke up bitterly. It was an amicable parting, where Lucas told her it was over and that he wasn’t interested in her anymore, and she only nodded and walked away. Though really, she was crying while riding the bus home.

She had the utter misfortune to fall in love with him when her former best friend was inviting her to join them during dates. And she could only shake her head at the girl’s stupidity: can’t she see that someone was going to be a third wheel? But Lucas was nice about it, and he was so extra nice to her.

Was she to blame for the whole thing?

And she did really love him, she really did. And now, like what happened before, someone else caught his attention – that goody two shoes.

She looked at her watch. It was 11:00. She still had time. Maybe she could apologize to her?

His Friend’s Friend

He sighed. He thought she was coming over. But he received a short text message telling him that she can’t go and she had something urgent to do.

It was still 11:00. Maybe he could still join his best friend.

The Other Girl

She was so guilty of lying to her best friend since forever. But she had to do this; it was the only chance.

She fell for him since that time when he caught her scarf which the wind blew away. And then she fell for him again when she saw him giving roses to his former girlfriend. And then she fell for him this time around when he asked her to meet at the school garden and told her that he liked her.

And they had to keep their relationship a secret.

Lucas

To be honest, it was getting tiring, jumping from one girl to another.

It wasn’t as if he was mean to females. He really did fall in love with them, but he always kept falling out of love too. He couldn’t do anything about it.

R was the first. She was cool, calm and unruffled, and he wanted to see what she was like when she was thawed. R‘s sister was next, but unfortunately, she was too elusive for him, and he didn’t get the chance to really pursue her. R never forgave him for going after her sister, though, who was more than a toy for him to play with. He knew E since they were kids, but she wasn’t interested. He thought A was way too different, and P even ran away before he could do anything.

Then he dated K, who he thought was fun to be with. She was like the sun. She was cheerful and laughed all the time. And then her best friend tagged along on their dates. S was more quiet, more reserved, and her wall was quite a challenge to break. When he did, he found out he was in love with her. Then he noticed I, who was too nice and too kind and who he knew was in love with him. He thought she could be the One, finally.

But it didn’t really last. She did everything he told her and tried to give anything he wanted. She was so single-minded and focused to make him happy. And it was getting boring.

Maybe he could still make it to Midnight.

The Angel and the Demon

They both wanted to have fun, just in a different way.

He wanted to find romance. He was the nice guy. He was courteous and polite and gallant. He did well in school and it wasn’t as if he was bad-looking. So why the hell did all the girls he knew fell for that sleazy bastard who did nothing except to dump them all?

He wanted revenge. If that bitch thinks she can get away with what she did, then she had another thing coming. And she had the nerve to hook up with that damned playboy who was sweet on another girl. Not as if he cared.

The King

He grinned as he looked at all the players assembled.

This was going to be fun.
